Contemplating new computers again.

contemplating the age old debate of Laptop... Or desk top. I need something versatile, small and compact. 1 point for laptop.

Need something with alot of memeroy and larger screen. one point for desktop.

Need something can set up and take places with me easily. one point for laptop

need soemthing that can play games. half a point for laptop and desktop.

Need something that can upgrade easily. one point for desktop.

that is all i can think of so far. even points. ho hum. contemplating a mac laptop as well, or even a mac desktop. don't know how the networking issue will work then if i do that. but hwo knows!

oh well. More artwork completed. and playing around with masking fluid tonight. turned out some interesting things. Learned a bit with how it works and moves nad peels off. and how to and how not to peel it off. luckily the piece i did was a play around pice. If anyone wants it. it will be up for sale at all fur fun. :)

Why not get both?
We got my laptop off of ebay- http://myworld.ebay.com/shcho
Not sure about the guy's shipping to Canada and all, but, hey, it's something to consider.
You get one or the other on the super cheap, then, buy the other at regular price. Or, you could go the Thrifty Glutton way, and get them both on the cheap. ;-)
I say this, because I have both a laptop and a desktop and it's super keen.

I was pricing out a mini system for a friend of mine who wanted a portable system, but didn't want to have to deal with a lappy.

Basically it's one of those Mini Barebones case/MoBo/Powersupply dealies off Newegg, The appropriate RAM, Processor, Hard drive, Optical Drive, Graphics card, Etc, And a flatscreen monitor.
Fits in a small sized wheeled luggage, But still has ful power and can have regular parts swapped out later.

Not as portable as a laptop, But probably more powerful, and cheaper.

All I can say for mac laptops is that they're comparatively expensive, fragile (get a carrying case for yours or else the screen will slowly warp! >:|) and they're very different from PC systems.

However, they're sleek and their screens are nice and glossy and sexy; Macbook Pros come with built in webcams (don't know about the other ones) that can be used as instant reference-taking cameras; they're very fast, and they're little sharks at picking up wireless connections. (>:3)
Mine has never run slow for me yet and I like to flip out ADD style and open a million windows (including photoshop, Illustrator and In Design) at the same time.

Mac Desktops are a somewhat different case. I'd recommend getting whichever you're more comfortable with. I have a mac in both and I like my laptop more than my desktop.

Oh! And make sure to keep with the ergonomic mouse! Mac mouses are pieces of shit that make your wrist fall off. D:

Upgrades are a potential red herring. Many who put value on the ability to upgrade never make a significant upgrade to their current machine. RAM, drive space, and *maybe* processor are incremental upgrades. If you intend to upgrade more than that then the point does go to the desktop. If you aren't intending to upgrade a lot then a laptop would merely be an 'opportunity loss' as the value doesn't exist until you want to seriously upgrade.

RAM and drive space on a laptop is terrifically easy to upgrade these days. Processor upgrades on a laptop are more involved - often impossible - but unless you know you will want to do it it's not a real disadvantage.

Most of the sexy new desktop processor tech requires a new motherboard (and often new RAM) so it's no cheap procedure for a significant upgrade.

Just something to consider :)
