Mar. 11th, 2008 09:16 pmThis may come as a surprise to some of you but Easter is just around the corner, and so my yearly post about owning house rabbits as pets goes up!
DO NOT BUY A RABBIT FOR EASTER! unless you intend on having a pet for a good 5-10 years. providing it with a happy healthy home. space to run and a cage large enough so that you don't feel guilty if you can't let them out as often as you can. (or like me, have carpets at the moment)
Bunnies are not a yearly pet to buy. they are not a temp pet only for easter. They are not pets for your pesky 3 year old. so they can have a live easter bunny for Easter. they are real live animals.
They are not to be discarded for having "tempterment issues" i see this one alot. as they grow and change int eh first 1-2 years. they too have stages of baby, toddler, teenager and finally adult. yes as a teenager they get tempermental. work through with them. learn about your pet. learn their attitude.
it's like a cat but more maintence, like a dog but quieter. easier to clean up after, if your health concious, you can have a rabbit friendly salad you can share with them. but no salad dressing on theirs!

Date: 2008-03-14 05:16 pm (UTC)A funny story my mom-in-law told me a while back - she used to breed Newfoundlands and they had this one Newfie who used to like chasing wild rabbits...till one day, she actually CAUGHT one! So she's standing there, with a bunny by the scruff in her mouth, and she had this expression on her face "HOORAY! I caught one!! .....Now what do I do with it?" XD She eventually dropped it and the bunny took off like a bat out of Hell! XD
I'm not sure what Bella would do to the bunnies...I know would LOVE to chase them, but I'm not sure what'd she do if she actually caught one O.o;
